Coca-Cola Olympic record wheel

In February, I wrote about a record Coca-Cola gave out at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. That album featured a popular song and became an item coveted by collectors.

Coke_olympic_la_games_record_whee_2Decades earlier, at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, Coke gave out a different kind of record -- an Olympic record keeper.

You spin the blue part of the wheel to see the competition or sport you want, and the names, times and home countries of the record holders appear in the cut-out boxes on the green part of the circle.

These wheels were distributed compliments of The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Los Angeles. The record keeper helped the crowd of 105,000 spectators track the world records broken at the LA Games. (Remember, this was before the TV coverage, the Internet or the giant digital scoreboards of today could tell us these kinds of stats!)

With all of the Olympic and world records being broken in Beijing, this wheel might come in handy today!
