Coca-Cola BBQ Sauce Recipe
One of the things I do on the weekends is cook out. (My wife Kathy is a great cook, but I have both a gas grill and smoker that get extensive use over the weekend.) Growing up in Massachusetts, there weren’t too many months we could be outside – let alone cook outside – but in Atlanta I can use the grill almost every month of the year.
Recipes using Coke as an ingredient are really very popular. I found this one for BBQ sauce. The sweetness of Coke adds a nice touch to the sauce. Give it a try the next time you’re cooking out!
If you have a recipe using Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid juices or another drink, please send it to me: http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/heritage/recipes.html
Thick Barbecue Sauce
2 medium onions
3/4 cup
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Shred or blender-chop onions. Combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil; cover pan; reduce heat and simmer about 45 minutes until sauce is very thick. Stir occasionally.
Makes about 2 cups. To serve, heat frankfurters in sauce or spoon sauce over cooked burgers.
Hey, Phil, try boiling cocktail sausages in Coke (instead of water) for a couple of minutes before you put them on the grill... In Latin America its a common practice and it gives them a great flavor!

Pablo - Thanks for that great idea. I will definitely add that suggestion to my personal recipe book. -- Phil

Just found your website via the guys over at meninaprons.net. Great site. I have tried a similar recipe & use it all the time now. Might I also suggest the following recipe:
2-3 lb Roast
1-2 cups beef boullion
1 12 oz can Coca Cola
Garlic & Onion powder to taste
Place in slow cooker and cook on low for 4-7 hours (depending on roast, tenderness etc) When the meat shreds easily with a fork you have a WONDERFUL pulled beef sandwich meat. I love mine with a little mayo & mozarella on a hoagie roll.
Have a great day!

Carey - Thanks so much for the recipe, and for letting me knwo about the "men in aprons" site! I love using Coke with beef, because the tastes go together so well. I'm going to try your roast recipe in my smoker this weekend. (And doesn't everything taste better with mayo and cheese?) -- Phil

Hi Phil,
What is your favorite subject within the history of Coca-Cola and why?
Regards, Randy

Randy - Phil is away from the office, but I can tell you my favorite area of our history. I like learning about the early innovations Coca-Cola did -- things that today may be common but at the time were really new and different. Phil has mentioned a few of those, such as introducing a six-pack carton for bottles of Coke. We also used coupons more than 100 years ago to introduce people to what at the time was a new drink. Thanks -- Helen
