Friday Fun: Art Deco Delivery Truck

Friday Fun!

For this week's contest, I have selected a cool photo from our collection. In the mid 1930s, this vehicle visited neighborhoods and provided samples of fountain Coca-Cola to the residents. I'll bet that truck was more popular than the ice cream man.

Your challenge is to submit a witty caption for this photograph by 5pm on April 22. A winner will be announced on April 23.

Multiple caption champion Ray had the winning entry once again:

What did the napkin holder say to the boy holding it?

Dispense with the singing.

Thanks for your participation in our contest. Please check back tomorrow for a new challenge.

Coke Gas Pump

At the Pageant of Progress and Industrial Exposition held in Los Angeles in 1923, an innovative approach to put the focus on Coca-Cola was developed by the Los Angeles plant manager.

Visitors to the display booth of the Union Oil Company of California received complimentary glasses of Coca-Cola served from one of their standard gas pumps.

Attendees drank nearly 40 gallons of syrup in this unique dispensing operation!

Friday Fun - Audition Time at the Soda Fountain

For this week's contest, I have chosen a piece of original art that was used to create a magazine ad for Coca-Cola that appeared in Life Magazine in January, 1946. The young crooner featured in this scene appears to have generated a mixed reaction from his audience.

Your challenge is to submit a witty caption for this advertisement before 5pm on April 15-Tax Day for many of us. We will announce a winner on Thursday, April 16.

We had lots of very creative entries that used pun variations on either the word hand or glove, but in the end,the judges "handed" the coveted Archives closet prize to:"Hey... you wanna' another bottle of Coke? Talk to the hand!" posted by Ray.

Thanks to everyone who played, and check back tomorrow for a new contest.

Meet the Real Residents of the Coke Brand Manager Offices

If you’ve been watching the college basketball championship over the past few weeks, you have probably seen the two Coke Zero commercials that were filmed at The World of Coke. In one of the commercials, brand manager "Matt" is caught drinking a Coke Zero in his office. We went down to the World of Coke to speak with the people who actually work in the spaces where the commercial was filmed: Vickie Blocker, Inventory Control Manager, and Sybil Lee, Event Coordinator. You can watch the commercial here, and the interview below:

Can you see any of the items they pointed out in the actual commercial?

Up On The Roof

View From The Roof with arrow I  have an interesting job.

We monitor and record many of the television programs which feature material from the Archives.  We recently had an outage of our system and when the repairman came to make adjustments, they needed access to the roof to check on some wires.

I thought you might enjoy the view from the roof of the headquarters building!  If you look closely, you can see the World of Coke in the foreground.

It sure was windy up there today.

Diet Coke Fashion Bottles

Ashley Isham 500ml for AFF You might remember my post about the Sex in the City Bottles last May.  I just received a note from one of my Coca-Cola colleagues in Singapore with a photograph of a special diet Coke bottle created by Singapore native, Ashley Isham.  Isham, who is based in London and whose dresses are worn by many celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Lady Zara Philips, Kylie Minogue, Dido and Mariah Carey, joins a coveted list of artists who have applied their creative talent to the packaging of the of the world's best-selling drink.

Isham will work with Coca-Cola Singapore to put his design on over 100,000 commemorative bottles and one million cans of Coca-Cola light for the Audi Fashion Festival 2009 to be held in Singapore from May 6 to 10, 2009.  Coca-Cola light is the Official Light Sparkling Beverage of the Festival.  Collectors and fans will be able to purchase the Ashley Isham-designed Coca-Cola light when they go on sale island wide from April. The bottles will also be displayed at Isham’s Fullerton Hotel boutique.

Now we just need to make sure we get some for the Archives!
