Schmidt Coca-Cola Museum Auction

White Truck 2 Phil and I attended the Schmidt Coca-Cola Museum auction last weekend in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  The items being sold were just amazing and many collectors had traveled across the country to attend the two day event.  One of the items we were after was the 1949 White Motor Company delivery truck.  Hobbs Truck Ad White Motors and Coca-Cola have a long heritage and even shared the same President, Robert W. Woodruff, for a number of years.

The truck was restored by Erdi Carter and Paul Brown for the Schmidt museum to perfection.  It features the Hobbs Manufacturing Company body whose distinctive shape was created by noted industrial designer Raymond Loewy (patent below.) We were successful with our bidding and hope to use the truck in displays around our Company headquarters and at The World of Coca-Cola.

A 115 Minute Pause That Refreshes

Do you remember the 1960s Billy Wilder movie entitled "One, Two, Three" about a Coca-Cola manager in Germany? Critics at the time of release called it a "115 minute pause that refreshes"! Of course, I originally had to "google" the movie because I hadn't heard of it, but enjoyed the special "One, Two, Three" employee screening of at the World of Coke. Just recently, I also learned that we produced advertising posters, window streamers and six pack carton stick-ins to promote Coca-Cola as a tie in with the movie. Below is an image of one of the truck posters. The space on the right was left open so that the name of the local movie theater could be printed on directly.

Batter UP! - Louisville Slugger Musem

4 Phil and I traveled to Elizabethtown, Kentucky this weekend to attend the auction of the Schmidt Coca-Cola Museum Collection.  I will do a blog post later about the sale, but as we passed through Louisville, we made time to stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory.  We were meeting with Anne Jewell, the Executive Director and Nathan Stalvey, their Curator and Exhibitions Director about potential future joint exhibits or projects.

After our meetings, they took us on a tour of the museum and factory.  Since Phil and I are both big baseball fans, this was a special treat.  The highlight of the visit was a trip to the "bat vault."  Phil It dated from the days when all bats were still made by hand.  The Louisville Slugger factory kept a model of each players bats as a reference copy so they would have an example of the exact dimensions of the bat.  We were able to see Ted Williams, Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson's sample bats.  Each player really had vastly different approaches to their bat.  In the photo to the left, Nathan is showing Phil the sample of the largest bat Major League Baseball would allow.

If we move forward with and exhibit, we will make sure to let you know on this page.

Refreshment on The Job

Many in the United States are celebrating Labor Day today. As a salute to those who are taking some time to pause and enjoy Coca-Cola on your break, please take a look at this 1950s-era clip from a film in our collection entitled "Work Safely - Refreshment on the Job".

Coca-Cola Chicken Recipe

ES011938-lo Atlanta residents have been buzzing about Sublime Doughnuts for quite a while now.  Chef Kamal Grant has reinterpreted the standard doughnut with amazing flavors like strawberry shortcake and my favorite, the A-Town Cream. My kids love Sublime and we have been many times.

The most recent issue of Atlanta Magazine has a section on Southern recipes.  A wonderful Coca-Cola chicken recipe created by Chef Grant's mother, Nidia is featured.  This stove top chicken dish features Coca-Cola as an ingredient with other unexpected flavors like hot sauce and banana peppers. I can't wait to try to make it during this long holiday weekend.
